The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to join our team as a lead project inspector.
In this role, you will:
    • Serve as the lead project inspector conducting independent complex inspections of structure and roadway items for project construction.
    • Review safety and environmental items and supervise junior inspectors performing routine to moderately-complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications.
    • Evaluate and apply engineering judgement to plan interpretation.
    • Establish and maintain positive communications between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
    • Traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
    • Apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
    • Maintain daily work records.
What You Bring
    • Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction.
    • Knowledge and understanding of contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
    • Working knowledge and skills using computers, software, and math functions.
    • Experience performing inspections, sampling, and materials testing (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
    • Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
    • Ability to safely drive a State vehicle.
    • Safety toe shoes.
Education & Experience
    • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
    • 2 years relevant technician-level experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
